We are the Jusos (Youth of the social democratic party SPD) at the University of Tübingen. As Juso HSG, we advocate for a fully funded university and affordable education for all. That’s why we fight for the reform of BAföG (federal financial aid for students) to make studying more accessible to a larger number of people. Within the SPD, we push for a nationwide valid student ticket and a reform of the WissZeitVG (Fixed-Term Employment in Higher Education and Research Act) to create more permanent positions in the academic sector.
What we do
Last year, we reactivated the working group Environment of the student council and engaged in discussions with the university administration regarding the expansion of solar energy on our rooftops.
We have established the working group University Structure and Financing. With this new group, we actively take a stand against cost-cutting measures in higher education.
In the AK Press & Public Relations, we have collaborated on shaping the social media presence of our student body this year.
In the Senate, we actively participate in discussions regarding faculty appointments, even if they may be controversial. We are also represented in the selection committee for the University Council.
What we want
We demand free licenses for programs and digital resources in the university libraries. Additionally, we strive for more hybrid teaching methods. However, digitalization should always be an expansion of current services – never a replacement.
The university urgently needs a climate action plan. By 2030, we aim to equip all rooftops with solar panels and establish a pro-rectorate for climate protection.
The energy crisis is creating a hole in the university budget, and the Green Party in the state is watching as funding for education runs out. As Jusos, we exert pressure through our state parliament members and organize resistance statewide.
The takeover of the cafeterias presents an opportunity for the student body. We advocate for affordable prices and extended opening hours.
